Yorkshire Tea: Why are people shouting at tea on Twitter? | SPP #90

So, what’s the tea? Top UK tea brand Yorkshire Tea was charged with treason by Twitter trolls and swamped with hate and calls for boycotting on social media after the Chancellor posed with a multi-pack of the popular brew.

These people took the photo as product placement, and forced Yorkshire Tea to publicly defend themselves. Who knew tea could be so controversial? Twitter knew, clearly.

Adam and Phil discuss the source of the outrage, navigate the reasoning behind this online show trial and explain whether or not brands should be held responsible when a politician or particular group try to leverage and endorse a certain product in order to strengthen their hold on their target demographic.
